Bhakti & Bhagavad Gita Satsang with Kirtan, Leicester
Author: Shez
On Saturday 24 January, Bhakti Marga UK put on a Bhakti & Bhagavad Gita Satsang with Kirtan evening at the Shree Hindu Temple & Community Centre. Roughly 50 people gathered for the event. So with an initial prayer to the Guru, along with a larger than life slideshow of Sri Swami Vishwananda – we began!
We started the programme with a song for each of the main deities of the temple: Radha & Krishna; Rama Sita Lakshman & Hanuman and Durga Maa.
Mayuran then gave a fervent talk about the Guru-Disciple relationship between Krishna and Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. He articulately explained how this relates to the Guru in our own lives and spiritual path. Below is an excerpt of his talk.
“The Guru is God. The Guru is the one that gives grace. Krishna says in the Gita ‘I incarnate from age to age to: uplift mankind; destroy negativity and establish truth.’- and this is what the Guru is doing all the time in our lives. He’s granting us joy; He’s granting us meaning and purpose; and He is the one that grants us salvation.”
Anshul then spoke about the glory and power of the Guru Mantra, as well as chanting the holy names of God. Below is an excerpt of his talk.
“The Guru mantra is the king of mantras. Why? Because the Guru Mantra is personally prescribed for you. The Guru, who is: self realised; knows your past, present and future; He knows your personality traits; your vasanas and samskaras – and based on that, he can prescribe a certain medicine for you only. That’s why when you chant the mantra from the Guru, there is an accelerated spiritual growth. That’s why it’s important to chant the Guru mantra.”
The talks were interspersed with the bhajan ‘Payoji Maine’ (which was also sung here by Swamiji during Ramnavami, 2013, which sings about the most precious gift of God’s name given by the Satguru.
At 7pm, it was time for aarthi at the temple, which they gave us the honour of performing. Afterwards, we sat and sang the regular prayers with the other people from the temple and then finished off with some more kirtan- Bhakti Marga style!
Although this event was relatively small, we were all positive that it is just the start and look forward to sing the glory of the Lord and speaking about our beloved Guruji all over the country!
