Music has always played a key role in all cultures and all religions. It is the language of the heart. Through music and kirtan, humans get connected with the essence of their being – Love. Bhakti Marga – the path of love and devotion – uses music as a means to awaken that Love inside everyone’s hearts, regardless of religious and cultural background.
Music has a power to take you from the mind and transport you to the heart – whether you are on the spiritual path or not – because music is the language of God.
Aradhana is a UK based Kirtan band who have a made a stunning impact on the kirtan scene. The word ‘Aradhana’ comes from Sanskrit and it means adoration and worship. Firuza, one of the lead singer from the band, explains –“we chose the name Aradhana because it seems to perfectly encapsulate how we feel about our singing – it is an outpouring of our Love, offering of worship to the Divine”.
These UK artists have a profound ability to deliver music suffused with rich creativity and intense energy. Their album blends Indian melodies and chants, with a cutting western groove
. The mrdanga beats combined with guitar, flute and soaring vocals provide a rocking, soulful sound. All of which capture the heart to deliver The Highest Worship.
These talented musicians have inspired people around the world to delve into the name of the Divine. The band members, Bhavani, Mayuran, Sujatha, Nilambarasdas and Firuza are all talented musicians in their own rights, but put them together and they are a force of music that can truly stir the heart. There is a tangible spark of bhakti (devotion) that is set alight when they sing together. A spark which can transport any listener to the realm of devotion.
Their joy in singing the Divine Names has been inspired by their guru Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda who has said time and time again that the name of the Lord has the power to elevate and subdue the mind, ultimately opening the heart to experience pure unconditional love. The Divine Names have the power to purify and elevate us. They give us the opportunity to experience joy and bliss, and through singing, clapping and dancing, we develop a personal relationship with the Divine. To show how important this is, even the holy scriptures say that singing the Name of God (Harinam) is the best spiritual practice for this era.
There is no difference between the Name of God and God. So when you chant His Name, He is next to you.
Having been headline acts for the Just Love Festival in Frankfurt two years running, they have shared the stage with world renowned kirtan artists such as Vijay Krishna from the Kirtanyas, Gauravani and classical Indian singer Karthigesan. They have travelled across Europe and parts of India including Vrindavan and performed in various events and festivals and inspiring thousands of people to raise their hands, dance and sing the Divine names of Radha, Krishna and Narayana.
